Our Little Secret (2024)

Image
COAT COUNT: 3 Avery and Logan are a former couple who are celebrating Christmas with their partners' families - which happen to be the same family and the same house since their current partners are brother and sister! To avoid any awkwardness, they decide to pretend not to know each other, which just creates more awkwardness. Coat Credibility Score: 🧥🧥🧥🧥🧥 /5 This movie has 100% coat credibility! Avery arrives wearing a casual jacket, and it looks like she has brought a dress coat with her. Makes perfect sense, especially since the house where she is staying is within driving distance. She wears a third coat while Christmas tree hunting, but it is borrowed from the house. The movie actually shows a closet full of coats available for the taking. Wow! The coat closet! The tree farm coat was borrowed from here.

Haul Out the Holly (2022)

COAT COUNT: 5 Christmas lover Emily, after breaking up with her boyfriend, decides to head home for the holidays to spend time with her parents. Unfortunately, they are heading to Florida! While she hangs out alone at her childhood home, the neighbors/HOA conspire to involve her in their holiday festivities and perhaps ignite a spark with her childhood friend - and fellow Christmas enthusiast - Jared.   Watched on Netflix. Coat Credibility Score: 🧥🧥🧥 (3/5) The movie begins with Emily Christmas shopping and wearing her fuchsia coat, so she does live in a cold area. Also, she is shown driving to her hometown, so she could reasonably have brought those coats with her in the car. Since she is staying at her parents' house, and they just left for Florida without their coats, she could, realistically, be sporting some of her mother's left-behind outerwear. Overall, not too hard to accept this coat count.

The Merry Gentlemen (2024)

COAT COUNT: 2 To save her parents' small-town performing arts venue, talented daughter Ashley, a dancer recently let go from her dream job in Chicago, stages an all-male Christmas-themed revue.   Watched on Netflix. Coat Credibility Score: 🧥🧥🧥 🧥 🧥   (5/5) Ashley lives in Chicago and is shown outside her work in the same coat and scarf she wore to her hometown. She sports that same coat and scarf in every single outdoor scene of the movie except for when she is packed and returning to the airport. That is the only time we see the pink coat. She is staying with her family while in town, so it isn't unreasonable that she got the pink coat from her mom or sister. This movie earns a perfect coat credibility score!

A Merry Scottish Christmas (2023)

Image
COAT COUNT: 8 Estranged American siblings Lindsay and Brad Salinger are summoned by their mother to Scotland for a family Christmas. Unbeknownst to them, they are descended from Scottish royalty and own a castle! Much Highland Flinging,  bagpiping, and whisky drinking ensues.  Watched on Netflix. Coat Credibility Score:    _    (0/5) When we first meet Lindsay, she has arrived in Scotland with a large suitcase (checked size) and a big tote bag. Not enough suitcase for that many coats! Plus, as a resident of Los Angeles, she probably wouldn't own that many. During her time in Scotland, she does stay at her mother's home, but she and her mother are not the same size, so they wouldn't be sharing outerwear.  It's really hard to suspend the coat disbelief for this particular holiday vacation! Looks like the previous black coat, but it's not. Check out the buttons!

A Very British Christmas (2019)

COAT COUNT: 4 American opera singer Jessica Bailey is on her way to Vienna. Unfortunately, there is a travel snafu and she ends up on a steam engine bound for a quaint English village in Yorkshire. She finds herself stranded there -- and the only available place to stay happens to be in a holiday park run by handsome artist/single dad Andrew.  Watched on Amazon Prime. Coat Credibility Score: 🧥🧥   (2/5) Jessica has traveled overseas to Scotland wearing a long suede (?) coat and bringing with her a carry-on sized suitcase,  a large weekender-type bag, and a large shoulder bag. While that is more luggage than we often see in these movies, three additional coats, one of which is very puffy and another of which is long and wool, would not fit in that amount of luggage. And she has a few different hats and scarves as well. Also, why would she need all these different coats for a short work trip anyway?
